I’ve been focusing on adding layers and depth to my bodyscape series. By using bodies with different skin color and stacking multiple bodies into each frame I hope to increase the dimensionality of my work.
I’d like to offer a big thank you to the models who gave me my first opportunity to work with so many bodies at once.
I have been asked by Марина Джигарханян the Head of the Department of Contemporary Art at the “Manege” Central Exhibition Hall, to exhibit my bodyscape collection at the Saint-Petersburg Photo Vernissag. This invitation-only photo exhibit, will be hung in September 2010 in St. Petersburg Russia. For the selection of my images to show I am going to depend heavily upon the process of social selection.
Here is the theme of the show (note: English is a 2nd language for the curator):
At the heart of fashion lies an individual style, and her world – a self-contained space, absorbing a wide range of phenomena. Through them a man expresses his attitude to external forms of culture: lifestyle, serving and table manners, cars, clothing, thus trying to show their place in society, their sexuality, location, class, status level and belonging to a particular group. Photocamera gives us an opportunity to capture different aspects of fashion, its endless cyclicism and change of artistic images, which always embody the era image in a clothing. This subject gives participants a wide opportunities for philosophical reflections and artistic self-expression.

I’ve been invited to show my bodyscapes at the the Academy of Art in St. Petersburg in Russia. Before making a final selection of my work to show I did one last shoot.
This is a social selection process, which means I want you, the reader, to leave a comment with your favorite image and what you think it should be named.
My past Bodyscape Social Selection post and Bodyscape Soscial Selection Continued post have been so helpful in deciding which bodyscapes to add to my permanent collection that I’ve decided to turn it into a routine.
So here is a recent shoot with it’s 10 semi-final pics.
I planned on completing my bodyscape collection selection after my Bodyscape Social Selection post. However, new ideas for bodyscapes kept coming to mind, so I decided on two more shoots to help round out the collection. This is the first of those two shoots.

I am happy to announce that starting next week prints of these two images will be hanging in the high-end Art Photo Expo Gallery (map | info) on Lincoln Road in South Beach. These are 2 foot by 4 foot black and white prints were exposed on traditional photographic paper, processed chemically, then mounted behind a sheet of photographic grade acrylic, and backed by a sheet of aluminum. About the Series (from Art Photo Expo’s Description):
Doug Peterson’s Bodyscape Series approaches the female figure as a landscape; the lines and curves of delicately lit forms evoke rolling hills, majestic mountains, ocean waves, arctic tundra and other scenes from the natural world. A conscious modernization of the themes of Edward Weston, the Bodyscape series insists that a woman can celebrate the mystery and beauty of her body without accepting sexual objectification.
Creating compelling images using nothing but the human body and lighting is challenging. Any sexuality or awkwardness is obscured by the constant struggle to find interesting lines, shapes, and textures.
In both of these shoots I used two cameras. The first was a point and shoot digital camera which I used mainly to evaluate lighting and composition. The second was an 8″x10″ film view camera. Being 8×10 this film has 80 sq. inches, a full 60 times more than 35mm. The resulting image is around 100-200 megapixels. This quality is why digital cameras won’t displace film in applications requiring top-quality for quite some time. In fact, a group of photo nerds has modified an air force aerial camera to produce 1000+ megapixel images.
